Inspiration
With the growing rise of AI, there has become a rising trend of "vibe-coder" aka users who primarily use AI to create project with no technical knowledge. We created Orbit to allow "vibe-coders" to learn CS principles or software development all the while being able to improve their imported projects at the same time without any technical knowledge.
What it does
Orbit connects to user's Github Repository through links and processes the entire repository using artificial intelligence in order to transform their projects into courses for user's to learn and improve their project at the same time.
How we built it
We used an IDE called FreeBuff, along with a tech as followed: Vite Typescript React Router v7 (all imports from react-router instead of react-router-dom) React 19 (for frontend components) Tailwind v4 (for styling) Shadcn UI (for UI components library) Lucide Icons (for icons) Convex (for backend & database) Convex Auth (for authentication) Framer Motion (for animations) Three js (for 3d models)
Challenges we ran into
In the middle of our development process we ran into a issue where there was a memory leak in our program to the point where when we ran our program locally, our devices slowed down dramatically due to memory and CPU usage spike. We resolved this by back tracing the JSON file that caused the leak and modified it to work on any device and cleared the unbound JSON states.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Being able to troubleshoot technical difficulties, managed to complete a full onboarding system, being integrate third-party software, was able to include authentication, managed to also include a working code editor that's able to compile and run code within the the website, and included an option to push files and code edited on our website directly into user connected repository.
What we learned
We learned how to work collaboratively, the engineering design process, learning how to deploy agents, learning how to integrate databases, learning graphic design, ai/prompt engineering, and GitHub Developer application.
What's next for Orbit
We are trying to integrate additional third party platform such as Base 44, Lovable, Replit, etc, to increase project and course flexibility. Additionally we are trying to create a local view of their integrated projects for ease of view and see actual updates on their project as they complete each lesson.
Additional Dependency
In order for the software to work you must connect your Github account to our Github application through this link: https://github.com/apps/orbit-code-tutor
