Inspiration
This actually came from a problem I have myself. I save a ton of Reels, tutorials, games, AI tools, and random things I find interesting on social media, but most of them just end up sitting in my saved folder.
Games are probably the biggest example. I'll see a really cool game on Instagram or TikTok, save it, forget about it, and then see it again months later and think, "oh, I should have saved this" — even though I already did.
The problem is that saving something doesn't really mean I'll do anything with it. I still have to find it again, figure out what it was, search for links, check reviews, and work out what I actually wanted to do with it.
That was basically the idea behind ORANO: what if saving something actually turned it into something useful?
What ORANO does
ORANO turns saved content into structured, searchable, and actionable information.
You can share a Reel, video, article, PDF, repository, or note directly into ORANO. It uses AI to understand the content, transcribe it, categorize it, and pull out the useful information.
For games, for example, ORANO can identify the game and find the relevant links to Steam or other stores so I can wishlist or buy it. It can also give me multiple places to check prices, along with reviews and other useful information. So instead of just saving a video about a game, I actually have everything I need to do something with it.
It also automatically organizes everything into categories, so my games don't get mixed in with all the AI and tech content I save.
I can also ask the AI questions about everything I've saved instead of manually scrolling through hundreds of saves trying to find something again.
How we built it
ORANO is a cross-platform Expo/React Native app for iOS and Android, backed by a FastAPI/Celery service.
A big part of the project was figuring out how to process different types of content and extract the right information from each one. We combine things like transcripts, captions, frames, on-screen text, and source context to build a much more useful understanding of what was actually saved.
RevenueCat powers the Orano Pro subscription layer and handles purchase and entitlement management across Apple and Google Play. We also use a store-configured introductory trial for eligible new users, with RevenueCat and the backend working together as the source of truth for entitlements.
Challenges
One of the biggest challenges was that different types of content need very different things extracted from them.
A tutorial might need to become a step-by-step plan, while a game recommendation needs links, reviews, pricing, and information about the game. We didn't want to just turn everything into the same generic AI summary or checklist, so getting the AI to understand the context and format the output appropriately was a big part of the work.
We also had to figure out how to make the whole pipeline work quickly enough that it doesn't feel like you're just uploading something and waiting around for an AI response.
What we learned
One of the biggest things I learned from building ORANO was that understanding the content isn't enough. The really useful part is understanding what someone is likely to want to do with that content next.
That changed how we thought about the product. Instead of just building another AI summarizer, we started focusing much more on turning saved content into something that is actually usable.
We also learned a lot about building a cross-platform product with React Native, handling a fairly complex AI processing pipeline, and connecting that with subscriptions and entitlements through RevenueCat.
What's next
I want ORANO to become the place where all the random things I save actually go somewhere.
The goal isn't to create another giant folder of bookmarks. It's to make saving something the beginning of an action — whether that's buying a game, trying an AI tool, following a tutorial, researching a topic, or just being able to find something I saved months ago without digging through everything manually.
We also wanted the whole experience to stay really clean and minimal, so it feels more like something you naturally use rather than another complicated productivity app.
