Inspiration
Inspiration struck when a friend mentioned their enjoyment of Learn Chess with Dr. Wolf. This sparked a question: could a similar AI-driven experience be built within Horizon Worlds?
What it does
Oracle's Gambit is an ELO-ranked chess game. It employs AI to provide live commentary for Player vs. Player matches and serves as a challenging opponent in Player vs. AI modes.
How we built it
The project began as a pure experiment to test a hypothesis: could a complete Horizon Worlds game be developed entirely using AI? After several months of iteration, the experiment was a success, culminating in a fully published game.
Challenges we ran into
The primary constraint of the experiment was self-imposed: I wrote zero lines of code. Every feature, function, and bug fix required relying entirely on AI. This process became an intensive, real-world lesson in mastering prompt engineering and AI-assisted debugging.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Taking 'Oracle's Gambit' from a simple thought experiment to a published title without writing any original code is the project's defining accomplishment. It serves as a powerful validation of AI as a genuine development partner.
What we learned
This project significantly deepened my understanding of how to collaborate with AI. I learned specific techniques for generating effective, functional code and, just as importantly, how to use AI to systematically debug its own output.
What's next for Oracle's Gambit: Horizon Chess Club
The next major focus is building a vibrant and active community around the Horizon Chess Club.
