People are not always on an even playing field when it comes to education. Underprivileged people can be discouraged by the high price tag on a college degree, but is there an alternative?
What it does
We bring all of the internet's online courses to one place where people can learn any topic that they dream of. The skills they learn are then attached to their profile and used to match them with possible job opportunities.
How we built it
Our team built our website using Figma and React.
Challenges we ran into
Our team did not have substantial coding experience prior to the event, so we had to learn on-the-fly. Our site was modeled in Figma, and we hoped to then code it in React. After a day of effort, we finally had a partially-functional navigation bar. This is when we shifted our effort towards further developing our idea and how we would implement the design.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We learned lots of new skills such as learning React as well as Figma. Creating a functional navbar was extremely satisfying to someone who had never coded in React 24 hours before.
What we learned
Communication is very important. We were able to coordinate tasks extremely effectively to maximize the skills of our teammates.
What's next for Work-In-Progress
We would like to see our website be available to people eventually. It would be great to see a world where people can get a professional-level job without having to spend time in apprenticeships or get a degree every time. This would allow many more people to grow themselves in ways that they aren't currently able to.
