Inspiration

As a student, I constantly explored platforms like Devfolio, MLH, and Unstop to find hackathons and internships. While these platforms offered plenty of opportunities, I always faced the same question: "Am I actually ready for this?"

Most platforms simply list opportunities—they don't tell you whether your current skills match, what you're missing, or how to prepare. I realized many students around me had the same frustration. We weren't struggling to find opportunities; we were struggling to become ready for them.

That realization inspired me to build OpportunX AI—an AI-powered career copilot that not only discovers opportunities but also helps users understand their strengths, identify skill gaps, and prepare with confidence.

What it does

OpportunX AI is an intelligent platform that helps developers discover hackathons, internships, and competitions based on their skills.

The platform analyzes a user's resume, extracts technical skills, matches them with relevant opportunities, detects missing skills, recommends personalized learning resources, and even assists in generating hackathon proposals.

Instead of overwhelming users with hundreds of listings, OpportunX AI provides personalized insights that answer:

Which opportunities are best for me? Why was this opportunity recommended? Which skills am I missing? What should I learn next? How can I prepare a stronger application?

How we built it

We built OpportunX AI using a modern serverless architecture on AWS.

The frontend was developed using React, Tailwind CSS, Framer Motion, and Recharts to create an intuitive and interactive experience.

The backend is powered by AWS Lambda, Amazon API Gateway, and Amazon DynamoDB, while the application is deployed using Amazon S3 and Amazon CloudFront for scalable and reliable delivery.

Throughout development, we focused on building modular components so that each feature—resume analysis, opportunity matching, skill-gap detection, learning recommendations, and proposal generation—could work together as one seamless experience.

Challenges we ran into

One of our biggest challenges wasn't technical—it was understanding the actual problem we wanted to solve.

Initially, the platform simply displayed opportunities. As we continued building and testing, we realized that users don't need another listing platform; they need guidance.

This completely changed the direction of the project. We redesigned the workflow to focus on skill-gap analysis, personalized learning recommendations, and explainable opportunity matching.

Another challenge was balancing functionality with a clean and intuitive user experience while building a scalable serverless architecture within the hackathon timeline.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud that OpportunX AI evolved beyond a simple opportunity discovery platform into a career preparation assistant.

Most importantly, we're proud of building something that addresses a real problem faced by students and developers.

What we learned

This project taught us that solving the right problem is more important than building more features.

We gained hands-on experience with AWS serverless services, scalable application architecture, frontend design, and user-centered product development.

More importantly, we learned that great products aren't built around technology—they're built around understanding people's challenges and creating meaningful solutions.

What's next for OpportunX AI

This is just the beginning. Our vision is to transform OpportunX AI into a complete AI-powered career intelligence platform.
