Inspiration

Students discover hackathons, grants, internships, fellowships, accelerators, competitions, and university programs across dozens of websites, social posts, chats, and forwarded links.

The hard part is not discovery. The hard part is deciding what is actually worth pursuing, checking the source, remembering deadlines, and following through.

OpportunityProof is a personal opportunity operating system designed to turn scattered opportunities into an actionable workflow.

The problem

A student may have 20–50 interesting opportunities open across browser tabs, Telegram posts, spreadsheets, saved messages, and notes. Important details are often incomplete or stale:

  • Is the deadline still open?
  • Is the program online or in person?
  • Is it funded?
  • Does the student meet the eligibility rules?
  • Where is the original source?
  • What needs to be verified before spending hours applying?
  • Which applications are already in progress?
  • What deadline is next?

Static opportunity lists solve only discovery. OpportunityProof focuses on the full workflow after discovery.

What OpportunityProof does

The live MVP includes:

  • a personalized home dashboard with recommended next steps
  • a multi-source opportunity catalog
  • filters for category, status, format, funding, deadline, and source
  • detailed opportunity cards with deadline, format, funding, source, and eligibility notes
  • a “Needs clarification” layer for uncertain or incomplete eligibility information
  • source-health information and last-check status
  • favorites and planning actions
  • “Start application” / remove-from-applications state changes
  • a dedicated My Applications pipeline
  • next-action prompts for applications
  • archive controls
  • a calendar view for upcoming opportunities and deadlines
  • .ics export for calendar integration

The workflow is:

discover → inspect → verify uncertainty → decide → track → meet the deadline

Why it matters

Opportunity discovery is fragmented, while application effort is expensive.

A student can lose hours applying to an opportunity that is already closed, self-funded, geographically restricted, or simply not relevant. At the same time, strong opportunities are often lost because the deadline was forgotten.

OpportunityProof reduces that waste by making source transparency, uncertainty, next actions, and deadlines visible in one place.

What makes it different

1. It does not stop at discovery

The product continues into application tracking and deadline management.

2. It shows uncertainty instead of inventing certainty

When a rule cannot be safely confirmed, the interface marks it as Needs clarification rather than pretending the user is eligible.

3. It keeps the original source visible

Opportunity cards preserve source provenance and source-health information.

4. It turns a list into a workflow

Users can move from browsing to planning, applying, tracking, and calendar actions without rebuilding the same system in spreadsheets.

ImpactHack contribution / existing-project disclosure

OpportunityProof began as an earlier hackathon prototype before the ImpactHack submission period.

I did not simply resubmit that version unchanged.

During the ImpactHack build window, the project was substantially expanded into the current opportunity operating system. The meaningful new contributions include:

  • redesign from a simple opportunity-analysis prototype into a multi-section dashboard
  • multi-source opportunity catalog
  • advanced filtering across category, status, format, funding, deadline, and source
  • source-health and last-check visibility
  • explicit “Needs clarification” eligibility states
  • detailed opportunity views
  • favorites and planning controls
  • application-tracking workflow and status changes
  • dedicated My Applications pipeline
  • next-action prompts
  • calendar view with opportunity markers
  • .ics deadline export
  • public browser-tested deployment

These additions changed the product from a single analysis concept into an end-to-end workflow for discovering, verifying, tracking, and acting on opportunities.

Technology

The live product is a responsive single-page web application built with:

  • HTML5
  • CSS3
  • responsive Grid layouts
  • client-side JavaScript
  • browser state / interaction logic
  • calendar and application-workflow logic
  • public web deployment
  • AI-assisted development for research, product design, coding support, debugging, QA, and documentation

The current live build does not claim an embedded generative-AI model. Its user-facing decision support is intentionally transparent: source status, explicit uncertainty, structured opportunity data, filters, and workflow state.

Testing

The public deployment was tested in a fresh browser session.

Verified interactions include:

  • switching between Home, Opportunities, My Applications, and Calendar
  • filtering the opportunity catalog
  • opening opportunity details
  • viewing source and eligibility information
  • moving an opportunity into the application workflow
  • viewing the tracked application in My Applications
  • rendering the October 2026 calendar with opportunity markers

Accomplishments

  • working public MVP
  • multi-source opportunity catalog
  • source transparency
  • uncertainty / clarification layer
  • advanced filters
  • application tracking
  • deadline workflow
  • calendar integration
  • responsive UI
  • real browser QA

What's next

The next version will add richer personalization, automatic source refresh, evidence-backed eligibility checks, multilingual support, document tracking, deadline notifications, and AI-assisted opportunity summarization while preserving source transparency.
