Inspiration

Students discover amazing scholarships, internships, hackathons, competitions, and courses every day — but the information is scattered across many websites, social media pages, messaging groups, and college communities.

Many students miss opportunities simply because they do not know they exist, cannot quickly check whether they are eligible, or forget the deadline.

This inspired us to build Opportunity Compass — a platform designed to make finding the right opportunities simpler, faster, and more personalized for students.

What We're Building

Opportunity Compass allows students to create a profile with information such as their education level, course, location, skills, and interests.

The platform then helps them discover relevant opportunities and understand:

• whether they are eligible
• what the deadline is
• what documents are required
• where they can apply
• which opportunities they want to save and track

Our goal is to make opportunity discovery feel simple instead of overwhelming.

How We Plan to Build It

We are starting with a focused MVP containing:

Student Profile → Opportunity Database → Smart Matching → Eligibility Check → Save & Deadline Tracking

The frontend will be built as a responsive web application using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, with Firebase for data storage and authentication and a free deployment platform such as Vercel.

We are keeping the first version simple so that we can focus on making the core user experience actually work.

What We're Learning

Building Opportunity Compass is helping us understand how to turn a real-world problem into a usable product.

We are learning about:

• product design and user experience
• frontend development
• databases and authentication
• opportunity matching and eligibility logic
• testing and debugging
• building a sustainable business model

Challenges

One of our biggest challenges is balancing a useful product with the limited time available during a hackathon.

Another challenge is making opportunity information clear and trustworthy while keeping the experience simple enough for students to understand quickly.

We are solving this by focusing on a small but useful MVP first, testing the main user flow, and improving the product based on what we learn.

Our Vision

Opportunity Compass is more than an opportunity listing website.

We want it to become a reliable starting point where students can discover opportunities that match their goals, save the ones they care about, and stay on top of important deadlines.
