Inspiration

Opera Neon is Opera’s new AI-driven browser, built with integrated agents that can work with you or for you. When we began discussing the teaser film, the idea was to avoid the traditional tech-demo approach entirely. Instead of people explaining the product, the product would explain itself. The creative starting point was a simple prompt to the AI: “Explain what an AI agent is.” That response became the seed for both the script and the visual language.

What it does

AI generated a humanoid design, which we then combined with live-action footage. The result is a hybrid piece where the browser literally “takes the floor” and talks about what it is and how it works.

How we built it

  • We used the AI’s own explanation of “an AI agent” as the narrative base.
  • We shot a live-action performance to anchor the character.
  • Generative video tools were used to create the robot.
  • The final film includes 50+ AI-assisted VFX shots, from fully generated sequences to hybrids where AI and real footage merge.
  • Everything was completed within a tight 2 week production window.

Challenges we ran into

  • Blending a real actor with AI-generated identity in a way that feels consistent.
  • Managing AI drift and maintaining continuity from shot to shot.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Building a coherent hybrid character using a mix of live-action and generative material.
  • Completing over 50 AI-driven VFX shots on a short timeline.
  • The film has already been widely picked up: 1,500+ editorial mentions and 200,000+ YouTube views.

What we learned

  • AI can sit inside every stage of the filmmaking process: from script to performance to VFX.
  • Generative video is unpredictable, and stability becomes part of the craft.
  • Working this way requires improvisation and fast iteration, rather than a fixed plan.

What's next

From a filmmaking standpoint, we plan to keep pushing the hybrid approach: tighter integration between live performances and generative layers, better character stability, and more expressive AI-driven visuals as the tools improve.
