Inspiration With the rapid advancements in real-time computer vision and cloud infrastructure, building scalable, reliable visual AI solutions often presents a steep engineering challenge. We were inspired to create OpenVision AI to bridge the gap between local edge vision processing and scalable cloud intelligence, enabling fast, low-latency automated insights for real-world applications.

What it does OpenVision AI processes live video feeds and image streams using advanced computer vision techniques. It extracts visual features, identifies objects of interest, and securely streams telemetry and analysis to AWS for cloud-based orchestration, alerting, and deep analytics.

How we built it Computer Vision Layer: Built using OpenCV and Python to handle real-time frame acquisition, edge preprocessing, and spatial object analysis.

Cloud Infrastructure: Powered by AWS services (such as AWS Lambda for serverless execution, Amazon S3 for data storage, and AWS IoT / Rekognition) to scale computational tasks seamlessly.

Pipeline Integration: Connected edge vision routines with AWS cloud endpoints to ensure high throughput and minimal latency.

Challenges we ran into Latency Optimization: Balancing local frame rate processing in OpenCV with smooth cloud sync over variable bandwidths.

Scale & Efficiency: Managing resource consumption on edge hardware while maintaining robust model accuracy during cloud inferencing.

Accomplishments that we're proud of Successfully integrating OpenCV's low-level image processing with AWS's cloud infrastructure into an end-to-end working pipeline.

Achieving real-time response times with minimal overhead during live stream analysis.

What we learned Best practices for streaming visual payloads to AWS efficiently.

How to balance workload distribution between edge video processing and cloud-based AI models.

What's next for OpenVision AI Advanced Models: Deploying fine-tuned custom vision models for specialized domain tasks.

Edge Optimization: Optimizing edge deployment using TensorRT / ONNX for faster local inference prior to cloud sync.

Enhanced Analytics Dashboard: Developing a unified dashboard in AWS to visualize real-time computer vision insights and alerts.
