Inspiration

I wanted to push the boundaries of what Codex and GPT-5.6 can do in building large-scale enterprise applications.

It takes months for a handful of engineers to architect and build a large-scale automation platform by piecing together enterprise infrastructure and security, an orchestration engine, integrations, databases, workflow and execution engines, a visual canvas, and AI integration. I utilized Codex and GPT-5.6 to build it in just 3 days.

What it does

OpenSpiderz automates complex workflows by connecting and configuring nodes for tools such as Gmail, Outlook, Slack, webhooks, and more.

All users need to do is connect each tool by clicking the Connect button, and OpenSpiderz takes care of everything else.

Users can automate thousands of repetitive tasks, saving time and scaling operations without SaaS subscription bloat.

How we built it

  • Styling override issues caused by a node library that only occurred in the browser

  • Successfully integrated multiple external tools that users rely on for daily repetitive tasks
  • Designed a clean, informative, real-time UI that makes creating and running automations fast and easy

What we learned

  • GPT-5.6 Terra and Codex are powerful tools for building large-scale applications with many moving parts.
  • GPT-5.6's long context window enabled it to generate and maintain a massive codebase while still fixing issues quickly.
  • Hackathons are a great way to push a single developer to build large-scale applications in just a few days with Codex and GPT-5.6.

What's next for OpenSpiderz

  • Expand support for hundreds of additional external tool nodes
  • Add speech and text input so AI can generate, connect, and test complete workflows automatically
  • Raise funding from investors and expand OpenSpiderz to serve millions of users
