Inspiration

Re-define project collaboration: we want to change the way how teams collaborate location-independently. To quickly connect on a web-based, secure and easy to use platform.

What it does

Location-independent team collaboration and project management on a shared platform:

  • create and manage project plans in Gantt charts and share them with your team and other stakeholders,
  • manage tasks, ideas, questions, and more,
  • risk management,
  • follow-up on daily tasks and prioritize in agile boards,
  • time tracking and cost reporting,
  • news, forums, wiki for documentation and communication,
  • meeting management,
  • and much more.

How I built it

It's build in ruby-on-rails and angular. Licensed under GPL V3.

Challenges I ran into

Many features and highly customizable.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Global user base - open source alternative to MSProject, JIRA, Asana, Monday.com, Wrike - made in Germany with high focus on data security and privacy.

What I learned

Open source and open standards need to be more supported, i.e. in Europe/Germany.

What's next for OpenProject

Open source BIM project managment for building industries, incl. IFC 3D model viewer and BCF management.
