Inspiration

OpenMoji was created because I had an interest in learning about Adobe Express. Finding out that there was a competition, I was eager to submit a project that would demonstrate what I had learned in a short time of 2 days. Looking into the existing Adobe Express add-ons, I didn't find a library that included my favorite Emoji. I thought to myself, why don't I create one myself?

What it Does

This Adobe Express add-on gives users a library of emojis that users can use for free. The emojis are added to the user's Adobe Express document which they can shrink, stretch, and move around to touch up on any project.

How I Built It

The project was built in HTML and JavaScript, where it was then edited in Visual Studio Code. The Emojis used in this project were obtained through an open-source project that features a number of Emojis. To test my code, I used Adobe Express's add-on development page, allowing me to test my code locally.

Challenges I Ran Into

One challenge I ran into was learning JavaScript as I had never used it before this project. Learning how to create functions and the specific syntax needed for addressing parameters stumped me at times but I was able to overcome this with time and effort.

Accomplishment I Was Proud Of

I was very proud that I was able to develop an Adobe Express add-on from scratch. Doing things solo, I had only myself to rely on. However, being able to create a project that you had no prior knowledge about is an accomplishment I am very proud of.

What's Next for OpenMoji

After this Hackathon is over, I want to continue my journey in learning about Adobe Express. In the future, I may create a bigger library of emotes and add options to perhaps create your own emotes and upload them into an online database usable by anyone with an online connection.
