Inspiration

We were inspired by the growing need for transparency and trust in charitable giving. Traditional donation systems often lack visibility into how funds are used, leading to donor skepticism and reduced participation. We wanted to leverage blockchain technology to create a system where every donation is transparent, verifiable, and truly makes an impact. The vision was to build a platform that combines the immutability of blockchain with the compassion of charitable giving, ensuring that help reaches those who need it most.

What it does

OpenHeart Chain is a decentralized donation platform that facilitates transparent and trustworthy charitable contributions. The system allows users to:

  • Create fundraising campaigns for verified good causes
  • Contribute using approved stablecoins with real-time tracking
  • View detailed analytics, progress percentages, and donation history
  • Ensure funds are only released when campaign targets are met or deadlines reached
  • Require campaign creators to provide proof of fund utilization through evidence submission

Campaigns undergo a DAO-like multisig review process where validators verify the legitimacy and worthiness of each cause before approval. All funds are locked in smart contracts until conditions are met, providing complete transparency and security for donors.

How we built it

Frontend:

  • Vite + React for fast, modern web development
  • Tailwind CSS for responsive and beautiful UI components
  • Thirdweb SDK for seamless blockchain integration

Blockchain & Smart Contracts:

  • Solidity for writing secure smart contracts
  • Multi-signature wallet structure for campaign approval
  • Token locking mechanisms for fund security
  • Event logging for transparent transaction history

Infrastructure:

  • SKALE Network / Sepolia Testnet for deployment
  • Thirdweb Account Abstraction for user-friendly onboarding
  • IPFS for evidence and document storage
  • Stablecoin integration for reliable donations

Challenges we ran into

  • Designing a secure multisig approval system that balances decentralization with practical governance
  • Implementing proper fund locking mechanisms that protect donors while allowing legitimate access to funds
  • Creating a user-friendly interface that abstracts blockchain complexity without sacrificing transparency
  • Ensuring gas efficiency while maintaining comprehensive audit trails
  • Developing a robust evidence submission system that prevents fraud while being accessible to non-technical users
