Inspiration
Wouldn't it be cool to do a complete analysis on your DNA and track every disease/conditions prone to your genome type?
What it does
OpenDNA lets you upload your DNA and search an open repositories.
How I built it
Its powered my Meteor and uses a few npm packages. The core packages without which it would have been very difficult are dna2json and gql.
Challenges I ran into
DNA files are about 3 million lines of text. Processing a 60mb text file in Meteor is no joke! But we got it to work after several hours of hacking!
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
The fact that we could meet our goals within 30hours of coding. Collaborating and hacking together.
What I learned
We learnt a lot about DNA processing, handling JSONStreams in JavaScript, correctly structuring apps.
What's next for OpenDNA
We want to polish our app and crowd source all the disease/condition genome data. Make the worlds largest searchable, crowd sources repository DNA repository.
