Inspiration
We were inspired by the struggles of Covid-19 as well as the surge in machine learning technology and facial recognition software. We thought it would be really cool to create something new for us in a way that could be applicable to the real world.
What it does
It detects if you are wearing a mask or not.
How we built it
We used the OpenCV library and Keras to develop a facial recognition program which detects whether a user is wearing a mask and provides the user with a celebrity look-alike of them.
Challenges we ran into
Training the models and pushing our project to Github took longer than expected. We also faced certain compatibility issues with libraries when collaborating on the project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Neither of us have much experience with machine learning or image recognition before so we are glad that we were able to finish a project and learn more about what goes into creating complex technologies.
What we learned
We learned about how image detection works (through pixel densities and edge detection) as well as how facial recognition models could be trained and used.
What's next for OpenCV Facial Recognition
We would hope to create better trained models using larger data sets.
