Inspiration

A friend of mine is planning to construct his home. He wanted to design a floor plan for it. Many tools exists to create 2d and 3d plans but their is no agent to help him. So, created openArchitect which has in-built agent, as well as ability to link to ChatGPT app with webMCP.

What it does

OpenArchitect creates 2d plan for homes. It can also show how it will look in 3d.

How we built it

The stack used

  • NextJS
  • Vercel
  • Saved on localStorage
  • zod schemas

Challenges we ran into

I added ask_user tool but it doesn't ask questions through chatgpt UI and instead asks through app only. I wanted to chatGPT to use it's own UI to ask questions. Wasn't able to find if it is possible or not.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Agent able to construct designs.

What we learned

  • How WebMCP works. How to connect tools to Codex through webMCP.

What's next for openArchitect

  • Add Authentication
  • A payment gateway to use inbuilt agent which is using GPT-5.6
  • Generate multiple designs at once.
  • Ability to add materials on walls, floors.
  • 3d models of objects in home.
  • Able to walk through the design and look in first person.

Why it fits the use case

Not everyone is an architect. When someone builds a home, they like to consider few floor plans before finalising one. Generally, it is hard to draw 5 floor plans with different orientation of rooms but it is easier to give feedback on those floor plans. Here, Agent draws the plans for you, you just need to look at it and give your feedback. Humans can collaborate by doing changes manually also.
