Inspiration
Many people struggle with mental health issues, past trauma, suicidal/intrusive thoughts, psychological disorders, etc. We wanted to create a website that would help these people find a community to talk to for support, ask for anonymous advice, and to reach out to for resources that could help them like hotlines and other websites.
What it does
The website has multiple pages. One page is for inspiration, motivation, and quotes, to help people feel better about themselves. Another page includes resources for those suffering with poor mental health. A third page leads to a group panel where the user can choose from multiple chat communities. Each group has a specific purpose, and they all allow anonymous posting on the forums, discussions, etc. We've also included a chat button/panel for users to engage and ask for help/advice from site moderators/creators.
How we built it
We used the Wix website editor for the base, and then used HTML/CSS to construct the website.
Challenges we ran into
There were some issues involving the chat feature, but we debugged them and ended up with a fully-operational chat panel.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of coming up with the group feature, as it allows users to connect with one another and get support if they don't have access to it offline.
What we learned
We learned more about HTML and web-design, as none of us were super familiar with the topic before the Hackathon. This oppurtunity has given us some useful skills that will really help us in the future.
What's next for Open Space
What's next is getting a user-base on the platform to use all the tools we have coded/curated.
