Inspiration

I was inspired to make Open Pantry when I was brainstorming ideas for hunger issues, one of the 17 UN goals. I remembered how much food i've seen restaurants throw away and that's when I thought of creating this.

What it does

Open Pantry lets food places that are going to throw away and waste perfectly good food donate it to food banks for people in need. When restaurants throw away food, it gets burned a majority of the time. Reducing food waste would also lead to less burning food, ultimately leading to less Co2 in the air.

How I built it

On Figma, I made the wireframe by using a phone template and adding text and shapes. I linked words to specific pages and brainstormed the layout of the app.

Challenges I ran into

Since the platform was new to me, I had a hard time creating the whole wireframe. It was hard to complete it because I was working alone, so I had to spread out my time for different elements and couldn't spend too much time working on each one.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I am proud of making my first wireframe and mock-app. It is my first time doing something like this so it is a big accomplishment from my perspective.

What I learned

I learned how to brainstorm a app and it takes a lot of hard work and patience to get it right.

What's next for Open Pantry

I will try to add a verification page so that random people cannot just post false things and it will make sure that only food banks will take the food. I also might add that individual with a low-class income or no income at all can get this food too in the future.
