Introduction
Often we see that accidents take place and the patient is taken to the nearest hospital to receive treatment. Before starting the producer or any treatment, the doctor has to run some preliminary tests which are already done at the regular hospitals he visits for regular check up. So if the doctor was able to access this data, it would be helpful for starting the treatment immediately so that there will be no risk involved for the patient due to time delay.
What it does
The main aim of the application is to transfer patients past records from his/her old hospital to his/her new hospital by user authentication. So when going for a new hospital registration simply give the unique identification number of his/her 'Electronic Health Records', the hospital will get the access rights to access the past health record from his/her previous hospital. In cases of emergencies like accidents, heart attacks etc. the authentication can be done using face recognization or biometrics, the hospital can get a part of the records from the database so as to start immediate treatment for the patient.
How I built it
The application is built on an OPEN NETWORK MODULE where registered users on the network share data with each other.
Challenges I ran into
The major challenge we faced was to implement our solution in real world. Usually hospitals do not share data with anyone except in cases of emergency. So we came with an idea of OPEN NETWORK where interested hospitals can join the network at initial stage. This would ease users pain as they get to choose the hospital they want rather than sticking to the same hospital as huge amounts of past records is with one hospital. This model is inspired from the ONDC - OPEN NETWORK for DIGITAL COMMERCE, a government of INDIA initiative
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
The accomplishment that I'm proud of is implementation of CENTRALIZED SHARING OF DATA in an efficient manner that helps in reduction of duplicate testing, better medication and care coordination.
What I learned
Things we have learned is how to develop and organize centralized databases, how open networks can kill monopoly and helps for better benefits of the user.
What's next for Open Network Centralized Health Record Database
Having huge volumes of data at hand paves way for analytics that give insights into the data and provide valuable information. As patient records can be accessed in a single go, we can learn about what problems he/she is facing - provide valuable health information via communication methods like Email, text messages. Further we can exapand this as a platform for connecting patients with mental health providers, enabling them them to easily find and book appointments with qualified personals, as a comparison platform for that enables users to take informed decisions about their care etc.
