Inspiration

The idea for this project stemmed from the challenges faced by women, particularly those with hearing impairments, in accessing education, healthcare, and economic opportunities. The lack of accessible communication tools motivated us to leverage Generative AI to bridge these gaps and create an inclusive digital platform.

What it does

Our platform integrates AI-driven ASL avatars, speech-to-text transcription, and text-to-sign translation to empower deaf and hard-of-hearing women. It provides accessible education, healthcare resources, and job opportunities while promoting financial independence through mobile microfinance and skill development programs.

How we built it

Frontend Development: Designed an intuitive interface using React.js and React Native for cross-platform accessibility. Backend Architecture: Utilized Node.js and MongoDB for efficient data handling. AI Integration: Developed ASL avatars using Generative AI and 3D animation tools like Unity. Incorporated speech recognition and NLP models for real-time transcription and translation. Cloud Infrastructure: Deployed on AWS for scalability, real-time processing, and secure data storage.

Challenges we ran into

Limited Datasets: Training ASL models required extensive data, which was hard to source. Real-Time Performance: Achieving seamless ASL avatar responsiveness and transcription accuracy was technically demanding. User Accessibility: Designing a platform that is accessible yet feature-rich for underserved communities posed a design challenge.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully created real-time ASL avatar communication for deaf users. Integrated multilingual sign language capabilities, expanding the platform's inclusivity. Designed a scalable solution that addresses education, healthcare, and financial inclusion holistically.

What we learned

The power of Generative AI in breaking communication barriers. The critical role of user feedback in refining accessibility tools. How to balance innovation with practicality to meet the needs of underserved communities.

What's next for open Innovation Using Generative AI

Expand Language Support: Include regional sign languages like British Sign Language (BSL) and Indian Sign Language (ISL). AI-Driven Education Modules: Develop gamified learning tools for teaching sign languages to users. Enhanced Connectivity: Add offline features to reach areas with limited internet access. Broader Impact: Partner with organizations to deploy the platform globally, reaching more women and communities in need.
