Open Hands

Inspiration

Our inspiration was passing through San Francisco to get here and seeing so many needy people and the streets struggling to survive and we just wanted to make a tool to help them and we decided to do that idea for this hackathon.

What it does

Open Hands is a free to use platform that connects needy people with the resources they need. As we discussed the three basic necessities we all take for granted, needy people struggle to find the resources they need for these things. Open Hands helps solve that problem by connecting needy people to food banks, shelters to stay the night, etc. and gives directions to those places

How we built it

We built it using UI from Stitch and Claude Design and used Cursor and Antigravity IDE agents.

Challenges we ran into

Some challenges we ran into was the places it gave us were fake placeholders and we had to then add a Google API key for maps that we got from Google Cloud. And another challenge was it made fake directions to get there but that was fixed after we had an actual Google Maps API.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are very proud of what we made and we would really like to see it help needy people.

What we learned

We learned to add complex API's as well as how to manage time in this short hackathon by being conservative on prompting.

What's next for Open Hands

We really wanted to implement the feature of being able to book a place at a shelter or reserve a spot for food but we just didn’t have enough time to implement it. We did have time to implement calling but not reserving.
