What is OPEN-BOOK?

OPEN-BOOK is a digital textbook library designed to make educational resources easier to find, access, and read. Built with learners in mind, the platform aims to simplify the journey from searching for a textbook to finding the exact information needed for studying.

For many South African learners, accessing the right learning material can be a challenge. Textbooks may be scattered across different websites, and finding a specific topic inside a lengthy document can take valuable time. OPEN-BOOK aims to bring the textbook discovery and reading experience together in one convenient platform.

How it works

Discover textbooks. Browse a catalogue of learning materials organised by relevant information such as grade, subject, and language.

Open books in one place. Select a textbook to access its reading experience directly within OPEN-BOOK, reducing the need to navigate between separate pages and resources.

Read at your own pace. Use the built-in textbook reader to view pages and navigate through the document.

Find information faster. Where full-text search is supported, search for relevant terms and navigate to matching sections of a textbook instead of manually searching every page.

I came up with the idea for OPEN-BOOK, identified the problem of learners struggling to find and navigate textbooks, and led the development of the platform. I used AI-assisted coding tools to help build the website, shape the user experience, and implement the textbook catalogue and in-browser reading experience. I also worked on the product's branding, promotional video, and deployment preparation. My goal was to create a simple, accessible platform that makes educational resources easier to find and use, especially for South African learners.
