Open Barter

Inspiration:

Small businesses often struggle to run influencer marketing campaigns because traditional collaborations require cash budgets, while many creators are open to exchanging their work for products or services. Despite this, there isn't a dedicated platform that intelligently facilitates barter-based collaborations. We wanted to build a platform where businesses and creators can discover each other, negotiate fair exchanges, and manage collaborations with the help of AI.

What it does:

Open Barter is an AI-powered platform that connects businesses and creators for barter collaborations.

Key features include:

  • AI-powered creator and business matching
  • Intelligent barter scoring and recommendations
  • Campaign creation and management
  • Creator and business discovery
  • AI-generated negotiation summaries
  • Collaboration workspace with deliverable tracking
  • Mutual reviews and ratings
  • Business and creator analytics dashboards
  • Notifications, bookmarks, and favorites
  • Responsive modern UI with dark mode support

Instead of simply listing creators, Open Barter helps both parties understand why a collaboration is a good fit and provides AI-driven recommendations throughout the process.

How we built it

We built Open Barter using a modern full-stack architecture:

  • Google Gemini for AI-powered recommendations and negotiation insights

To make the platform scalable, we designed:

  • A modular AI Provider architecture
  • A Barter Intelligence Engine for compatibility scoring
  • Reusable component architecture
  • Context-based state management
  • A responsive and accessible user interface

Challenges we ran into :

Some of the biggest challenges included:

  • Designing a fair barter matching system instead of a traditional marketplace.
  • Building AI recommendations that are genuinely useful rather than generic text.
  • Creating a complete collaboration workflow from discovery to reviews.
  • Maintaining a scalable architecture while rapidly shipping new features during the hackathon.
  • Ensuring the application remained responsive and production-ready despite adding many interconnected features.

What we learned:

This project taught us that building AI products isn't just about integrating an LLM—it's about designing meaningful user workflows around AI.

We also learned how to:

  • Design scalable product architecture
  • Balance rapid development with maintainable code
  • Create intuitive collaboration experiences
  • Integrate AI into real user decisions rather than treating it as a standalone feature

What's next for Open Barter :

  • Authentication and persistent user profiles
  • AI-powered campaign optimization
  • Smarter creator recommendations using behavioral data
  • Organization accounts and team collaboration
  • Public APIs for ecosystem integrations

We believe Open Barter can make creator-brand collaborations more accessible by replacing expensive sponsorships with intelligent, AI-assisted barter partnerships.
