Inspiration

“This looks great—but what can I wear it with? Would it suit me?”

These everyday questions inspired us to create OOTie. We wanted to help people visualize outfit ideas before making a decision and connect with others for styling inspiration.

See it. Then decide. That is the idea behind OOTie.

What it does

OOTie combines personal outfit exploration with community interaction. Users can:

  • Save a wishlist: Collect clothing they like and organize outfit ideas.
  • Explore AI virtual try-on: Visualize how selected clothing could look on them.
  • Ask for styling help: Share outfit questions and get suggestions from the community.
  • Post their OOTD: Share everyday outfits, express their style, and inspire others.

OOTie turns “Would this work for me?” into an opportunity to explore and discover together.

How we built it

We started with a practical user journey: discover an item, save it, try it virtually, and share it for feedback.

We organized the wishlist, AI virtual try-on, styling-help, and OOTD publishing features around that journey. Through hands-on reviews, we refined the flow and checked whether each step was easy to understand.

We also created a demonstration video combining actual website interactions, narration, and lifestyle visuals to show how OOTie addresses everyday styling questions.

Challenges we ran into

One challenge was making the AI experience easy to follow. From selecting clothing and submitting a photo to waiting for a generated result, each stage needed clear guidance so users could understand what was happening and what to do next.

Another challenge was explaining the product within a short video. We repeatedly adjusted screen framing, pacing, subtitles, and narration to keep important details visible and make the story flow naturally.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of connecting clothing discovery, virtual try-on, and community interaction in one experience. Users can move from exploring an item to visualizing a look and sharing their style.

We are also proud of demonstrating the project through actual website interactions. Showing the selection, generation, and publishing process made OOTie tangible—something people could use, understand, and evaluate.

What we learned

We learned that AI becomes valuable when it helps people make decisions. Generating an image is one part of the experience; clear guidance, understandable results, and useful next steps matter just as much.

We also learned how strongly small details affect usability and communication. A complete screen view, a clear instruction, or a well-timed transition can make a complex feature feel approachable.

What's next for OOTie

Our next step is to invite more users to try OOTie and learn where they hesitate, which features help them most, and what would encourage them to return.

We plan to improve the virtual try-on experience, simplify clothing organization, and make community feedback more helpful. We also want to explore outfit suggestions based on clothing users already own.

Our goal is to make OOTie a helpful companion for everyday style decisions—a place where people can build confidence, share their style, and discover ideas together.
