OnSale

Inspiration

I love saving money, hence I only buy things I can afford, i.e, I usually buy things that are on sale. However, most people, including me, wait desperately for November, when Black Friday is finally here, because we can get great deals.

What it does

OnSale is an application that allows users to find the best deals on all sorts of products. The goal of it is to provide a Black Friday-like experience every day. This way we will boost sales, because people like to buy either the cheapest (without sacrificing the quality) or the ones that are on sale. Hence, we should give the user the ability to have both options.

How we built it

It was built solely using Bolt.new and its integrations (Supabase, Netlify). Initially for the thought process description of the project prompt, ChatGPT was used

Challenges we ran into

This will be an e-commerce website that scrapes data from other brands or e-commerce sites, such as Zara, Apple, or Amazon. However, I could not have more deals because the data ingestion logic is not working as expected. Most of the prompts we provide to Bolt.new seemed not to be able to translate it well enough for to Supabase migration, hence some deals are not working, and I have less deals than expected.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The fact of having the idea off the paper is a huge win. Though the app is not functional, I am glad the as Proof of Concept, now I know how I could make it work.

What we learned

AI is great to get things off the ground, but some level of human involvement is still needed. The Bolt.new integration with SupaBase is super and could surface the requirements for the MVP. However, due to lack of context on my end and in-depth knowledge of it. I couldn't set a good pipeline for getting the deals and ensure they work well.

What's next for OnSale

As the idea is now validated. I am now hoping the get some feedback from the judges. As for me, however, I plan to make the UI more sophisticated, easy, and appealing to the end user. On the backend, a lot of work is needed to ensure that we can get the deals from the major retailers that work and have a wait to monetize through it, because our app will be a middleware or reseller. To achieve the major goals of the app, the infrastructure will need to be improved.
