Inspiration

we were inspired by the ridiculousness of reCAPTCHA verifications and how easy they are for humans, but how robots still fail them. we decided to give humans the experience of verifying that they're robots to mimic the experience robots have when trying to pass reCAPTCHA tests.

What it does

our application is a gag game in which humans have to prove that they're robots, and continuously convince the system that they are robots by manipulating their movements and actions on the screen in a robotic way.

How we built it

we used zo to host our web application, and used a Next.js typescript/javascript full stack application to run the game on browser. we used claude and codex for the heavy lifting and debugging.

Challenges we ran into

git merges and branching were issues for the group at first because we lacked experience working in a group in such a short time frame. we were mostly used to using git by ourselves. we learned and worked out a way to branch and merge changes so that we weren't all waiting for one person to submit their work at a time. As most of the project was coded by AI, the codebase quickly grew into a mangled mess, which created multuiple bugs at the end, which we fixed

Accomplishments that we're proud of

we spent over an hour brainstorming on an idea that was interesting enough to work on. we're proud that we didn't settle for something less fun and naturally came across this idea through iterative brainstorming.

What we learned

we learned how to work better with people of different backgrounds, stacks, who had different ideas. it was not as smooth at it could have been at first, since our ideas kept conflicting and our communication wasn't as smooth as it was later on. We also learned a lot about how to properly manage ai agents, with context and guardrails, and how important it is to keep control of a codebase.

What's next for onlybots

we hope this gag game can be enjoyed by as many people as would appreciate the satire of proving one is a human in a world which is increasingly being overtaken by robots.
