According to the World Health Organisation, UV radiation exposure is the cause of 85% of melanomas in men and women across Canada. Our website aims to address these possibly life-threatening conditions through early detection.

Hackcamp’s goals of striving towards inclusion, diversity and accessibility are reflected in our project, particularly the goal of accessibility, as this website could increase accessibility for all communities. This is because identifying a malignant melanoma can be difficult for the average person and getting appointments with dermatologists are 1. Very difficult to get and 2. Can be expensive.

Many individuals are unable to afford healthcare or lack the resources for regular checkups, therefore our website can address this issue by providing a free platform where people can upload pictures of their skin and the website can identify whether the melanoma is malignant or benign. This would ensure that individuals are going to the doctor when necessary, which could save numerous lives.
