Inspiration

The criminal activities in India are increasing day by day. There were many discrimination among the people of low and high ethnic groups which made the low caste people to afraid of filing a complaint physically in the police station and avoid who has raised the complaint . Our website will solve this problem by hiding the user's identity(Aadhar) with the hashed key so that the user's identity will be maintained at most priority.

What it does

Our portal will be requiring the Aadhar number of the user uploading the case. This is because there may be any misuse of this website to provide fake complaints . So we get Aadhar card number so that can back track the user and traceback the reason. It requires which type of crime, the location of crime, the detailed description of crime and the box to upload a file(this is not mandatory because it may be with or without evidences). The details entered in the portal will be pushed into the blockchain with the Aadhar number in a hashed key to maintain the user's identity.

How we built it

Here we have used BigChainDB which is a free and open source private blockchain. The main purpose of choosing BigChainDB is that it is more economical than the anyother blockchain whereas ethereum and bitcoin will avail charges for services . The Aadhar number will be encrypted using the SHA256 hash key generation technique. Each record will be assigned with a unique private and public key in the BigChainDB blockchain.

Challenges we ran into

It is a centralized system for a particular state. Thus there is a need for a completely decentralized system for assuring that there is no central point of failure in the system and complaints are managed securely protected from unauthorized access.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This is a Portal where a user can report against any type of crime anonymously which will be transferred to the higher officials based on the location of the crime. As the size for each record in a blockchain is small, the file uploaded will be stored in any cloud and the link of that particular cloud will be pushed into the blockchain.

What we learned

This will solve the discrimination happening in India where the policemen will be denying the case only because the victim belongs to low ethnic group or if the policemen gets influenced by the lawbreaker and turn the case against the victim. So this will ensure the death causing due the ignorance or discrimination among the people belonging to low ethnic groups.

What's next for Online Crime Reporting Portal

As of now we have deployed our website in a local server. Next we have planned to increase the user's identity with any kind of Biometric which will increase the proof that the particular user is uploading the current case and we are trying to add APIs for the location which will add the location automatically. The portal will be very useful because already many lives were lost because this discrimination and this is indeed an useful project which will save many lives.
