APPLICATION FUNCTIONALITY

The Online Chronic Support System (OCSS) is a digital mobile platform designed to address the critical issue of abandoned, chronically ill patients. By connecting these individuals with appropriate care homes and medical services, OCSS aims to alleviate hospital strain and improve patient outcomes. The application places patients to these home cares, enables personnel to insert, view patient records and patient medication information digitally and enables communication between hospitals and the care homes through in app messaging. The application better allows funding and budgeting to hospitals by reducing strain caused by the abandoned patients.

APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT

OCSS was developed using a robust Android Studio framework to ensure accessibility and user-friendliness. Leveraging GitHub for version control and SonarQube for code quality, we prioritized a secure and efficient platform.

CHALLENGES ENCOUNTERED

Addressing the complex interplay of data privacy, security, and interoperability posed significant challenges. Establishing collaborative partnerships with hospitals and care homes was also crucial but presented initial hurdles.

PROJECT ACCOMPLISHMENTS

OCSS has successfully demonstrated the feasibility of a digital solution to a pressing healthcare issue. Our extensive user research, involving over 100 respondents, validated the critical need for such a platform. The overwhelming support for OCSS underscores its potential impact on improving patient care.

LEARNING LESSON

The pervasive nature of the problem of abandoned, chronically ill patients highlights a systemic gap in healthcare delivery. Addressing this issue requires a multi-faceted approach involving technology, policy, and community engagement.

FUTURE WORK

OCSS will continue to evolve through the integration of advanced analytics and predictive modeling to optimize patient care and resource allocation. Expanding our reach to healthcare facilities nationwide is a key priority. Additionally, exploring opportunities for public-private partnerships will be essential to maximize the platform's impact.
