Inspiration
OneShotUs was inspired by a simple idea: even when two people are far apart, they should still be able to capture the same moment together.
Long‑distance couples, families living separately, and friends in different cities often share messages—but not shared photos. I wanted to create a way for two people to press the shutter at the same time and feel connected through a single Polaroid‑style memory.
What I Built
OneShotUs is a two‑person camera app that synchronizes both devices, captures two photos simultaneously, and merges them into one Polaroid‑style image. No accounts, no complex setup—just an invite code and a shared moment. The final photo is created locally on the device and never stored on the server.
How It Works
- One person generates an invite code.
- The partner joins using that code.
- Both devices capture a photo at the same time.
- The app merges the two shots into a single Polaroid‑style image.
- Users choose how to save: free (with logo) or high‑quality (logo‑free via rewarded ad).
Challenges
Building real‑time synchronization across two devices was the hardest part.
Network latency, device differences, and ensuring both photos aligned naturally required careful design.
Another challenge was keeping the UI extremely simple—minimal steps, minimal friction, maximum emotional impact.
What I Learned
I learned how powerful a “shared moment” can be, even when people are physically apart.
I also deepened my experience with real‑time communication, image processing, and designing a product where emotion is the core feature, not just functionality.
