Project Story
Inspiration
Our project was inspired by the real-world challenges we faced as both recruiters and job candidates. One of our team members, Puneet, who has been leading engineering teams for the past 5 years, struggled with the daunting task of sifting through thousands of job applications. His approach to analyzing CVs was subjective and time-consuming, involving factors like job-hopping, vague resume pointers, job role correlation, and excessive copy-pasting. This arduous process made it challenging to identify quality candidates. Additionally, the pain didn't end with candidate selection, as the background check process often required exchanging 10-15 emails and took an average of 30 days.
Ansh and Eugene, on the other hand, experienced the frustrations of job candidates. They faced long waiting times after applying for jobs, arbitrary rejections, lack of communication from recruiters, and difficulty in showcasing their previous job recognitions. The tedious process of providing proofs for background verification added to their bitter experiences.
Validation
To validate the problem and our project idea, we reached out to our network and beyond. We spoke with VCs, project managers, recruiting consultants, and even recent graduate students. All of them shared our pain points and expressed excitement about the idea of a smart Applicant Tracking System (ATS) that could go beyond simple keyword searches. They also saw value in a system that could provide an authentic track record of previous employments and streamline the background check process.
Project Development

- Research: We conducted in-depth research to understand the current pain points in the recruitment process and to identify areas where automation and innovation could make a significant impact.
- Prototyping: We created prototypes of our smart ATS, incorporating features like advanced CV analysis, automatic background checks, and a candidate recognition showcase.
- Development: Leveraging our technical skills, we built a robust software solution that could handle the complexities of modern recruitment.
- Testing: We rigorously tested our system to ensure accuracy in CV analysis and background checks.
- Feedback Iteration: We collected feedback from recruiters, candidates, and industry professionals to refine our system continuously.
Challenges
Throughout the project, we encountered several challenges:
- Data Privacy: Ensuring the security and privacy of candidate data during background checks was a significant concern.
- Algorithm Complexity: Developing algorithms for nuanced CV analysis required extensive research and coding.
- User Interface: Creating an intuitive and user-friendly interface that catered to both recruiters and candidates was a demanding task.
Impact
Our smart ATS has already started to make a difference in the recruitment industry. It has reduced Puneet's filtering time significantly and streamlined the background check process, saving recruiters and candidates precious time. The positive feedback from users in our network has validated the effectiveness of our solution, and we are excited about its potential to transform the recruitment process for the better.
In summary, our project was born out of personal pain points, validated through extensive research and discussions, and brought to life through teamwork and technical expertise. We are proud of the impact we've made and look forward to further improvements in the future.
