Blood is one of the most critical resources during medical emergencies, but finding the right blood donor at the right time can be difficult. Many people depend on friends, family, social media groups, or multiple calls to find a suitable donor.
This inspired us to build OneDrop, a platform designed to make blood donor discovery faster, simpler, and more accessible.
What We Built
OneDrop is a blood donor connection platform that helps people find suitable donors based on their blood group and location. The goal is to reduce the time spent searching for donors during emergencies and create a more connected community of blood donors and recipients.
The platform provides a simple and user-friendly experience so that users can easily navigate through the system and access the required information.
How We Built It
We developed OneDrop as a modern web application using React and Vite. We focused on creating a responsive and intuitive user interface with reusable components and smooth navigation.
The application includes user authentication, donor-related functionality, and different sections designed to make the blood donation process easier for users.
Challenges We Faced
One of the main challenges was designing the platform around an emergency-focused use case while keeping the user experience simple. We also had to think about how donor information could be presented clearly so that users can quickly identify suitable donors.
Building the application also helped us understand component-based development, authentication, routing, responsive UI design, and organizing a real-world application.
What We Learned
Through OneDrop, we learned how to transform a real-world problem into a practical software solution. We gained hands-on experience with React, application architecture, user authentication, routing, reusable components, and modern UI development.
More importantly, we learned that a good application is not only about technology but also about solving the user's problem in the simplest possible way.
Impact
OneDrop aims to make blood donor discovery faster and more convenient, especially during emergency situations. By connecting people who are willing to donate with those who need blood, we hope to make the process more organized and help save valuable time when it matters most.
