Inspiration
As a digital marketer, I watched creators waste hours slicing videos, rewriting captions, and adapting content for every platform—content ROI was tanking. I thought: What if AI could turn 1 video into every asset a creator needs? That spark became RepurposeEngine—built to eliminate manual work and help creators focus on what matters: creating, not repackaging.
What it does
RepurposeEngine takes a single long-form video and auto-generates 15 platform-optimized short clips, 10+ tailored social posts (with tone controls), and 3 structured blog articles. It maps assets to ideal platforms (TikTok/LinkedIn/X) and schedules posts for optimal reach—all in a clean, intuitive interface.
How we built it
I started with wireframing core flows (upload → processing → gallery → export) in Figma, then built the frontend with React/TypeScript for responsiveness. Integrated OpenAI API to parse video transcriptions and generate on-brand content, FFmpeg for auto-clipping videos to vertical/horizontal formats, and Firebase to power the drag-and-drop content calendar. Backend logic (platform matching, scheduling rules) was built with Node.js, with AWS hosting for generated assets.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest hurdle was aligning AI-generated content tone with platform norms—LinkedIn needs professionalism, while X needs brevity. I also struggled with making drag-and-drop calendar functionality smooth across devices, and ensuring video clip previews loaded instantly without lag.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We created a seamless end-to-end flow: upload → AI processing → curated content gallery → platform matching → scheduling → export. The tone adjustment feature for social posts became a fan favorite—creators can toggle from casual to authoritative in one click. Most importantly, we cut content repurposing time from 8+ hours to 5 minutes for a single video.
What we learned
AI works best when guided by clear platform rules (e.g., 9:16 for Reels, character limits for X). UI simplicity is non-negotiable for creators—every extra click loses engagement. Also, testing with real creators early revealed pain points (like needing one-click copy/export) that shaped the final product.
What's next for this project
We’re adding real-time collaboration for teams, integrating direct publishing to social platforms (TikTok/LinkedIn APIs), and building analytics to track which repurposed assets drive the most engagement. We also plan to add multi-language support and custom branding options for agencies.
