Inspiration

I work at a local non-profit and a lot of Senior comes to our non-profit looking for support, whether they need help with medicaid assistance, meals on wheels or even a cooling center. Many of the Seniors that come by are not even aware of the services that exist around them, this is an attempt to help bridge that gap, and it is all easily consolidated into one website that is friendly and accessible to the average seniors.

What it does

This is a simple website that gathers aggregated information/data from the NYC Open Data, and it lists out resources like Senior Centers, Food Pantries, and other organizations that highlight resoruces that may be of need to them.

How we built it

I use Claude Code Sonnet 5 Medium Effort to help vibe code this web app.

Challenges we ran into

Sometimes Claude would incorrectly pull the wrong information i.e if a users want to go this place it would input the wrong address to google maps, a couple of buttons were broken such as increasing the text size or even bookmarking particular places. Another issue I struggled with was UI/UX design, my goal was to make the website pleasing or easy to understand for Seniors but Claude struggled with the color design.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud of testing various use cases of search queries, so that even if the query is broad enough, for example, Senior Centers in Flushing it will still return Senior Centers in Flushing, Queens, i am also happy to fix that most of the addresses the site returns for each indivudal query are correct and accurate as of now.

What we learned

I've learned that vibe coding is truly revolutionary since this is the first time I've tried to build a web app from scratch truly on my own. I see that coding is truly no longer a difficult thing and not even a barrier to entry to great idea. Truly, if one has a strong domain knowledge of their industry or field of specality a person can get a web app or an online application up and running in no time.

This is truly an amazing time to code and I can not wait to see how others will utilize AI to help out NYC

What's next for One Stop Shop Resources for Seniors

My goal is to

  • Fix up the color palette since the current color palette may be a bit stimulating for Seniors
  • Improve the language translation since the language translation is not the best
  • Fix up The text structure sometimes claude doesnt know how to fix Spacing and Indentations
  • Potentially add on push-on notifications for Seniors in case they would like notifications on their phone.
