Inspiration
One Day Without Tech was inspired by the question: what happens if our hyperconnected world suddenly goes silent? The film explores the tension between dependence and rediscovery — how quickly chaos arrives, and how hope can return in the absence of technology.
What it does
This 7:00 minute AI-powered experimental short imagines a single day without technology. It uses cinematic realism and layered sound design to:
- Show how fragile modern life becomes when systems collapse
- Capture the silence that follows, and the human connections rediscovered
- Explore the balance between innovation and vulnerability
How we built it
- OpenArt – designed start-shots, visual concepts, and character consistency
- Google VEO3 / Flow – generated photorealistic moving sequences
- Kling – produced photorealistic moving sequences
- Hailuo – created additional photorealistic moving sequences
- WAN2.2 – contributed unique photorealistic moving sequences
- MiniMax Audio – narrated the English voice-over
- aisong.org – provided original background music
- Wondershare Filmora – editing, transitions, and final assembly
Challenges we ran into
- Narrative pacing: balancing chaos with moments of silence
- Multi-tool integration: blending footage from five different AI video platforms seamlessly
- Sound design: making silence as impactful as noise
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Creating a 7-minute experimental short with a complete narrative arc
- Blending diverse AI video platforms into a unified cinematic style
- Delivering a film that is both technically complex and emotionally resonant
What we learned
- Silence is powerful: absence can be as cinematic as spectacle
- Cross-platform collaboration: multiple AI tools can create textures impossible for one tool alone
- Experimentation drives story: unconventional structure can heighten impact
What's next for One Day Without Tech
- Official submission to the Chroma Awards in the Experimental / Open category
- Preparing expanded versions for festivals that encourage longer-form experimental cinema
- Exploring educational use as a conversation starter about tech-dependence and resilience
