Inspiration
As we grow, the exciting memories stick with us. The first time we rode a bike, the birthday parties, our first jobs; these memories are etched into our memories forever. But what about the mundane days? The night when you stayed up all night with your friends to study for an exam, the mouthwatering meal your grandparents cooked for you, and just your day to day activities. These memories fade further and further from reach as time goes on. One day, we can only dream about the days of the past.
What it does
A Day at a Time is a chrome extension that prompts the user to make 1 journal entry a day, as well as taking a selfie. These are saved so that the user can look back on them, and if they wish, can watch a time lapse of their past entries.
How we built it
We used HTML, JS and CSS
Challenges we ran into
We had other ideas and plans to create other applications. However, due to technical difficulties, we had to restart and pivot in a new direction a few times, thus wasting many hours of the hackathon. Eventually, we decided to pursue this project. During the course of this project specifically, we ran into some issues with the carousel (the past photos feature). However, in the end we were able to overcome these issues and persevere with a project we are proud of that has a great impact on all of us.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Since we faced so many technical difficulties, we were very happy with the polished and finished project we created, and we hope users feel the same as well.
What we learned
We learned how to develop and implement a Chrome extension, how to design and present a product, how to combine frontend and backend, how to divided the work amongst ourselves, and how to come up with working ideas and break them down step by step. This was an incredibly enriching experience for all of us, and we all came out of it more confident in our abilities than before.
What's next for One Day at a Time
We're going to polish the interface, optimize the backend, and introduce more features like sharing with friends and taking combined photos with a friend.
