Inspiration: I had just been getting sick of writing the same thing over and over again to AI agents to constantly fill my chat up with unnecessary clutter and fluff. When you bounce between so many different AI platforms, and the one time you forget to tell it, "Be concise, be direct. Don't say all the freaking pleasantries. You're wasting time." Personal need was the reason.
What it does: it stores your AI context profiles in a single space that is in a public profile with a back-end JSON file that any LLM should be able to pull right off the website. You could just go to the various chat models and say, "Get my OnceAI profile", "my OnceAI business profile", or "my OnceAI developer profile", and it will know exactly that you want it to talk to you like a developer, writer or otherwise.
How we built it: we built it in Bolt, primarily with a little bit of integration between Supabase, Stripe, and Netlify. In a few occasions had to pull out the application to Cursor to do some debugging when Bolt got stuck, but otherwise it went very well within Bolt. We also built it in the Discord with a bunch of other people having ideas and input shared.
Challenges we ran into: all the challenges were really just learning this web development side of things as a vibe coder who only ever did backend Python. The big problem was learning the intricacies of DNS and OAuth and just redirecting in general. Oh, and making it accessible to AI was tricky. Formatting the robot file and making sure the proper edge functions were there.
Accomplishments that we're proud of: I mean that it works really well. It's something I'm proud of. As a solo project, honestly the biggest accomplishment to be proud of is start to finish completed and then submitting.
What we learned: we learned a lot weaving me that there is an amazing community within the bold Discord and a whole bunch of great people who want to become developers, create tools, and help people. As for the project, what we learned was really all of the intricacies of hosting and creating a web app. There's so much more to it than I expected. I cannot wait until more of that side of things is easier. The redirecting and authentication database management. I also learned that it's very, very easy to get stuck in a constant creation binge. Next project. Next project. Next project.
What's next for OnceAI: Fine tuning, API access, creation, marketing, and promotion. I think it would be a great product to have your specific chat contacts linked into either through an MCP or through just an option within chat. Probably make a yeah develop an API, and get a big user base. Get some feedback and learn some more features that it actually could benefit from. Remains to be seen. But we shipped it.
