Inspiration
Recruiting top engineering talent is only half the battle—retaining them post-hire is where many teams falter. Poor onboarding leaves new recruits disengaged, leading to high turnover rates that undermine sourcing and screening efforts. We envisioned a self-improving AI recruiter extension that bridges recruitment to retention by automating personalized onboarding, leveraging online RL to adapt from feedback and ensure new hires integrate seamlessly, perform at peak levels, and stay long-term. This not only maximizes the value of recruited talent but creates a feedback loop where retention data refines future sourcing and closing strategies.
What it does
Grokboard creates personalized onboarding journeys that bring new hires up to speed over several weeks. Each journey includes team-specific context, workflow training, weekly quizzes, and hands-on coding tasks. A specialized AI assistant answers questions in real-time, ensuring new hires have immediate access to the knowledge they need to integrate successfully into a team.
How we built it
The system starts by analyzing a new hire's resume using Grok, establishing a baseline for their technical background. A Grok agent then scans the team's codebase to generate weekly learning modules tailored to that baseline. Each week includes curated content, comprehension quizzes, and practical tasks. The platform tracks performance week-over-week, unlocking new content as hires complete previous content.

- Balancing personalization depth with codebase complexity was a challenge for us.
- Generating relevant, bite-sized tasks from large codebases required extensive prompt engineering.
