Inspiration
As pharmacy students that have completed our clinical rotation in various hospitals, we identified certain pain points within communication of healthcare providers in an inpatient hospital setting. We saw inefficient communication between health care professionals, including pharmacists, in hospital settings. Therefore, we created OnBoard, a to-do list software that can streamline task delegation and improve communications within healthcare professionals in a hospital setting.
What it does
This app incorporates all healthcare providers involved in a patient’s journey in the hospital into one centralized task delegation system. It allows for highlighting of priority tasks and provides a quick way to review all delegated tasks of an individual. It can reduce confusion and redundancy that is usually seen in traditional hospital software.
How we built it
We first built up a framework/design that we wanted to see in our final product using Figma. From there, our tech member was able to convert that into HTML, CSS and JavaScript to create our working prototype. With that, we converted all the things we have built into a presentation for our pitch.
Challenges we ran into
- The conversion of an idea into code was a challenge that we faced.
- Identifying a niche that has a significant issue was a challenge that we ran into.
- The viability of our project and how realistic it is to implement such software.
- Coming into an agreement with our final project idea and compromising.
- Prioritizing features that we’d like to see in our final product.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud of the final product that we built. Seeing it come to life in a matter of hours was truly a blessing.
What we learned
- Tackling problems for healthcare workers, especially communication issues, within a hospital setting is no easy task considering the archaic methods that are currently being used still work, albeit inefficiently.
- We informed ourselves more about the current technologies that are employed in the healthcare world.
- Time-management and to delegate tasks in a more organized way
What's next for OnBoard.
- Broaden the platform beyond singular hospitals to the local community health facilities
- Incorporate voice recognition software (eg. “Hey OnBoard, what tasks do I have today on Floor 2?”)
- Incorporate better chat functions to further improve communications within the inpatient setting
- Develop mobile app (iOS/Android)
