Inspiration

Sometimes life gets tough and we need someone to talk to. More often than not, though, what we truly need is not someone who can listen or tell us what to do, but rather someone to ask us the right questions. A small shift in perspective and everything can feel lighter again. And the answer, of course, always lies within.

What it does

Talk to Freud himself at any time, day or night. All you need to do is chat. The best part, of course, is the introspection that follows. No matter what you're going through, Freud has the right answer question for you.

How I built it

I used the power of Replit and repurposed an awesome opensource Repl that wraps around GPT-4. In fact, Replit's code Ghostwriter (GPT/Copilot equivalent) did most of the heavy lifting itself! Then I focused the rest of my time on prompt engineering. I also created Freud's face with MidJourney prompting.

Challenges I ran into

I first tried to build the whole thing from scratch. That took forever and had infinitely many obstacles. Then I found Replit and its amazing community :)

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I shared the link with some friends during the hackathon and they're already loving it. There's something magical about psychoanalysis when it comes straight from Freud himself. I hope this adds value to a lot of people who are going through a tough time!

What I've learned

Next time I want to build something with LLMs, go to Replit first. The iterative loop is incredibly faster. No excuse not to start there first.

What's next for On Freud's Couch

I'd like to expand this with some diary features for users to help them with introspection as they go through their Freud sessions and hopefully have a breakthrough moment. I'll look into Langchain (on Replit) for that next.
