Inspiration

Smart homes today are fragmented. Managing cross-device routines between Fire TV, Alexa, and smart appliances often feels disconnected and laggy. We wanted to build a unified ecosystem layer where ambient intelligence flows effortlessly across every screen and speaker in the room without requiring manual user input.

What it does

OmniPulse acts as a real-time sync engine for the Amazon ecosystem. It contextually bridges Fire OS, Ring, and Alexa Smart Home devices, allowing instant state synchronization, smart contextual alerts on Fire TV, and automated routine triggering based on user proximity and active device usage.

How we built it

AWS Services: Powered by AWS Lambda for serverless backend event processing, Amazon DynamoDB for real-time state tracking, and AWS AppSync (GraphQL) for live device subscriptions.

Smart Home & Voice: Built using the Alexa Skills Kit (ASK) and Smart Home Skill APIs for custom device discovery and voice control.

Display UI: Developed a custom Fire OS app module using React Native and AWS Amplify to display overlay notifications and ambient system updates on Fire TV.

Challenges we ran into

Latency Synchronization: Ensuring real-time event distribution between Alexa voice events and Fire TV UI overlays with under 200ms latency required optimizing AppSync subscriptions and DynamoDB Streams.

Context State Management: Balancing multi-user households so that one person's interaction on an Echo device doesn't interrupt another person's Fire TV experience.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Achieved seamless sub-second state sync across simulated Alexa endpoints and Fire OS interfaces.

Built a lightweight background sync architecture entirely on serverless AWS infrastructure to keep operating costs low and scalable.

What we learned

In-depth event-driven architecture using AWS Lambda and DynamoDB Streams.

Designing voice-first and screen-aware UX patterns tailored specifically for Amazon Fire TV and Alexa interactions.

What's next for OmniPulse

Local Processing: Integrating local edge runtime processing for faster responsiveness even with offline smart home hubs.

Generative AI Routines: Leveraging Amazon Bedrock to automatically learn household habits and generate intelligent smart routines dynamically.
