🚀 Inspiration
In today’s fast-paced, multi-app work environment, professionals — especially mobile workers — constantly switch between email, Slack, SMS, CRM tools, and calendars. This fragmentation leads to context loss, duplicated effort, and mental overload.
OmniAssist was born from one question:
What if your phone could understand your work context and help you act — instantly?
We wanted to build an AI-powered mobile copilot that unifies daily workflows and acts like a personal operations hub.
⚙️ How We Built It
Frontend: Built as a Progressive Web App (PWA) using React + Vite + TailwindCSS, designed for mobile responsiveness.
Backend Automation: Integrated n8n as the orchestration layer to simulate multi-service automation (email triage, draft generation, CRM lookup).
AI Layer: Mocked GPT-4.1-style APIs for natural language understanding, summarization, and draft creation.
Data Mocking: Local mock data simulates Slack, SMS, calendar, and customer insights — enabling fast offline prototyping.
Hosting: Deployed seamlessly to Vercel, ensuring instant global access and zero setup friction.
🧩 Features
📥 Smart Inbox: Triage, summarize, and reply to emails, Slack, and SMS in one place.
✍️ AI Drafting: Generate professional email responses automatically.
🗓 Unified Calendar: Combines meetings and task deadlines into a single view.
📊 Insights Dashboard: Get trends on communication tone, priorities, and sentiment.
💬 Cross-App Actions: One-tap Slack or SMS replies, plus AI-assisted quick actions.
👤 Person Insights: Contextual intelligence — see who you’re talking to, what was discussed, and next steps.
🔍 Challenges
Designing a mobile-first workflow that felt truly integrated — not just another chatbot.
Simulating cross-app orchestration (email ↔ Slack ↔ calendar) within local mock data.
Keeping UI minimal while preserving context depth.
Managing state and asynchronous mock API calls with React hooks without backend latency.
🧩 What We Learned
Building a cohesive context-aware assistant requires thoughtful UI/UX — not just AI prompts.
Mocking real-world automation flows with n8n and Vercel Edge Functions can create a surprisingly “real” demo.
The importance of balancing realism vs reliability during hackathon builds — simplicity wins when time is short.
🌍 The Vision
OmniAssist aims to become the Zapier + ChatGPT for your phone — a cross-app AI layer that remembers context, unifies your tools, and helps you act faster — anywhere.
