Inspiration
We wanted to build a tool that goes beyond just reminding users of their schedule—something that understands context and helps prevent problems before they happen. That’s how Omni was born.
What it does
Omni connects to your Google Calendar, analyzes upcoming events, and alerts you to external risks or opportunities—like strikes, weather disruptions, or policy changes—that could impact your plans.
How we built it
We used the Google Calendar API to fetch events, and integrated perplexity AI to check for relevant alerts.
Challenges we ran into
One major challenge was interpreting vague or shorthand calendar events accurately. Another was reliably communicating between microservices.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Seeing it flag a real-world issue before it happened was a major milestone. (Canada post strike)
What's next for Omni
We plan to implement mobile apps for user friendly notifications. Tracking context of past user events would also help AI analyze the context
