Inspiration

Our younger generations are wasting their lives at cash registers, I drive past in-n-out burger, typically a teenager is taking orders in rain and heat. In another restaurant staff is answering calls for pickup orders or reservations. We wanted to build omni-channel platform, where consumers can talk to their smart devices in their cars or living rooms naturally to complete the conversation and pay. See examples and videos below.

What it does

Any Square seller can connect their account through oAuth to HostBuddy, we import their item library and restaurant type we generate language model and publish Alexa skill which acts as multi-modal app (that is voice, show visual details, skill can see you too if user given permission) . Converse can converse to place order, including modifiers and modifiers at a luxury retailer.

How we built it

Using our own CLI to publish skills, generate code using OpenAI, ASK SDK, smpai, Square API to create orders, checkout API to process payments

Challenges we ran into

Our dialog management has to support Alexa catalogs, which has some limitations. Amazon Pay is tightly integrated with Alexa, we have to jump through hoops to support Checkout API.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Restaurant owners, who don't even have a website, can publish multi-modal app through hostbuddy. Decentralized, everyone gets their own branding, ZERO market place commissions.
