Inspiration
OmMarga was inspired by our desire to give back to our spiritual and cultural roots. In today’s fast-moving world, devotional practices often take a back seat. We wanted to create something that bridges tradition and technology, making daily practices like chanting, pradakshina, and reading stotras more accessible and meaningful.
What it does
OmMarga is a digital devotional companion that brings together:
- Stotra Library in Telugu and English with search, favorites, and language switch.
- Japamala Counter for counting 108 beads and tracking completed malas.
- Pradakshina Counter to record rounds of circumambulation with daily resets.
- Panchang / Tithi Info with a suggested daily stotra.
- Daily Image/Wallpaper that changes every day to inspire positivity.
How we built it
We built OmMarga using:
- HTML, CSS, JavaScript for UI and interactivity.
- JSON for devotional data like stotras, quotes, and tithi.
- LocalStorage to save user progress and preferences.
- JavaScript logic for counters, quotes, daily images, and theme switching (Dark/Light mode).
Challenges we ran into
- Managing stotras in two languages (Telugu and English) with proper formatting.
- Ensuring counters reset daily while preserving progress across sessions.
- Designing a clean UI that feels devotional yet modern.
- Making all features consistent and smooth with LocalStorage persistence.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Creating a devotional tool that blends tradition with technology.
- Ensuring offline usability with LocalStorage.
- Designing a user-friendly interface with minimal learning curve.
- Staying true to our mission of spreading devotion through tech.
What we learned
- How to structure and handle JSON data for devotional content.
- Effective use of LocalStorage for persistent user data.
- Designing devotional user experiences that balance simplicity and functionality.
- Building time-based features like daily resets and randomization.
What's next for OmMarga
- Adding audio stotras with playback controls.
- A calendar view for Panchang and festivals.
- A community space for sharing favorite stotras and devotional practices.
- Expanding into a mobile app for anytime, anywhere access.
