Inspiration
We were inspired in part by the #teamtrees movement, #strawlessocean movement, and Lil Dicky's song Earth to create a game related to ecosystem preservation.
What it does
It's a game where you play as a turtle trying to escape an oil spoil and navigate through trash to move the farthest distance possible.
How we built it
We used Unity and C# to program the game.
Challenges we ran into
A number of the game's mechanics were difficult to implement and took up most of our time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
In all honesty, finishing and exporting this game is what we are most proud of (not to mention that the game is really fun).
What we learned
This game helped us expand our knowledge of Unity and C#, as well as our ability to take abstract mechanics and convert them into lines of code. We also expanded our understanding of the dangers and effects of pollution on marine life.
What's next for Oil Spill Escape
If we were to continue further with this game, we'd continue to polish it and refine the game's mechanics to better express the importance of marine preservation. Thus we can use its popularity to encourage the youth to participate in taking care of our oceans and our planet as a whole.
