Inspiration
We were inspired by the vision of bridging the worlds of human intuition and artificial intelligence, creating a seamless collaboration that enhances everyday life. Oikos embodies this bridge by acting as a dynamic interface where users and AI agents co-create, communicate, and evolve together. Our goal was to design a system that feels like a natural extension of the user—leveraging AI to amplify human productivity, emotional understanding, and legacy-building. By integrating AI deeply yet unobtrusively into daily workflows, Oikos transforms how families and communities maintain and pass down their shared digital knowledge and habits across generations.
What it Does
Oikos is an AI-powered personal assistant app that captures voice notes enhanced by emotion detection using ElevenLabs, transforms those into actionable tasks, and predicts what the user might need next using Gemini AI’s habit tracking, planning, and sentiment analysis. Users manage tasks via intuitive swipes and benefit from deep integrations with NHS healthcare, Google Maps, and Google Calendar APIs. Its modular "genosilising" architecture enables families to build and evolve their shared digital legacy as an AI “house,” adding new “floors” (features) without conflicts.
How We Built It
We used modular backend architecture that supports compartmentalised AI features, allowing seamless integration of new algorithms powered by Gemini AI and ElevenLabs voice capabilities. The app interfaces independently with healthcare, planning and travel APIs, adhering to user privacy and security. Our focus on user-friendly voice-prompted AI tools ensures accessibility for non-expert users, allowing them to build custom algorithms with the help of AI, evolving the Oikos legacy organically.
Challenges We Ran Into
Handling complex modular AI interactions without creating conflicts between user-created algorithms was challenging. Integrating multiple external APIs like NHS and Google services while balancing privacy, security, and real-time responsiveness required significant backend orchestration. Designing the emotional intelligence aspect to meaningfully adapt workflows demanded iterative testing and tuning.
Accomplishments We’re Proud Of
We successfully designed a scalable AI ecosystem that allows families or groups to create personalised, non-conflicting AI workflows iterated generation by generation. Oikos integrates rich, emotion-aware voice input with predictive intelligence, automates actionable tasks, and bridges disparate data domains in a single intuitive assistant. Our “living legacy” metaphor resonates as a compelling, sustainable approach to digital well-being.
What We Learned
We learned the importance of modular AI design (“genosilising”) for scalability and legacy-building, how emotional AI can enhance user engagement, and the necessity of solid API integration strategies. The user-centric approach to building AI tools that anyone can customize deepens collaborative potential and encourages ownership within family or community groups.
