Inspiration: The hours that took standing in line to meet our TAs and Professors (For Jimmy)
What it does: AI-powered Platform designed to assist students and teachers. It's features include text recognition, quiz generation and instant grading, and calendar integration. And the best part...it's available 24/7
How we built it: How we built it: We built the frontend using HTML and CSS. The backend was developed with Node.js. We used debugging tools and optimizations to enhance performance using OpenAI and Chatbase.
Challenges we ran into: We ran into a number of challenges especially beginning from coming to a consensus to a common project idea and the tools and tech stack we would want to use to build this website. Super glad that our mentors were available to help us whenever we needed them. We were really confused as to what tech stack would be best and easy for us to understand. There were challenges ranging from team coordination to how to use the tech stack to what are the easy ways to improve the efficiency of our code. I think a lot of perseverance was needed to get through everything especially since energy levels cascade as the day goes by. But I loved how our team fought through everything and made it to the final project submission.
Accomplishments that we're proud of: A first for Professors and Students alike, this application uses RAG models to learn and provide relevant data about the doubts and queries that students have. When before students used to stand for hours in long lines to meet with their TAs and Professors.
What we learned: We learned how to use Chat-GPT - API to give make topic-specific chatbots, upgraded our skills in using HTML/CSS.
What's next for OfficeHour.ai: OfficeHour.ai can be optimized to make the model be integrated for each class for it's specific coursework as well as include multimodal inputs to allow the students and teachers to study with images and video files along with text files. The program for quiz generator can be expanded to give MCQs, Short/Long answers along with True/False questions It can also be expanded to allow students to give feedback to improve this amazing AI
