Inspiration

what if you are stuck in middle of nowhere with not a stable internet connection and no local stores nearby, sounds not safe right? Well, it is a possible situation. With majority of US having not so stable internet connection and the blind trust we have in google maps. There is a very high possibility that we can get stuck in a helpless situation where all we can do is turn mobile data on and off to get the internet connection.

What it does

According to UNICEF-ITU Report published in 2021, ‘Two thirds of the world’s school-age children have no internet access at home’.

Whether a user is checking into a social networking platform, looking for a pharmacy in the middle of the night, or located somewhere unknown and wants to access the internet, the key is always the same: location.

But for this hackathon, we are majorly focussing on the geolocation issue because of lack of internet connection.

How we built it

Tech stack is Flutter + Twilio

Challenges we ran into

Setting up Mapbox SDK and integrating twilio with Flutter

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Connecting SDK with Twilio

What we learned

Flutter + Twillio integration

What's next for Off-Road

  • It is possible to integrate a chatbot that will help the user find their required answer for their question within a few seconds. This will be highly helpful to students in remote areas with no internet connection.
  • Almost every visually impaired people have at least one story of getting lost. The estimated number of visually impaired people increased by 42.8% from 34.4 million in 1990 to 49.1 million in 2020. The voice assistant provided in Off-Road will be useful for visually impaired people

  • Integrate with maps to receive current traffic information.

  • Customizing through 3-D environment mapping technology called Lidar (light detection and ranging) — which can detect distances to surrounding objects — to scan indoor buildings and spaces. With these scans, can create maps that it uploads onto a cloud service.
