Inspiration
Crisis management training today is often expensive, static, and disconnected from real-world complexity. We wanted to create a platform that makes learning engaging, adaptive, and collaborative. Inspired by multiplayer games and AI-driven storytelling, we envisioned a tool that transforms crisis training into an immersive experience where failure becomes a path to growth.
What it does
Odyssey Engine is an AI-powered multiplayer crisis simulation game.
It helps teams practice decision-making under pressure through:
- 🤖 AI Dungeon Master that generates unique, adaptive crisis scenarios
- 👥 Real-time Multiplayer for 2–4 players to collaborate in high-stakes situations
- 📊 Intelligent Scoring that evaluates teamwork, creativity, and decision quality
- 🎮 Gamified Learning with live feedback, rankings, and scenario diversity
How we built it
- AI Generation: Integrated multiple LLMs (OpenAI, Mistral, Gemini) for dynamic scenario creation
- Multiplayer System: Built with Socket.io for seamless real-time communication
- Frontend: React + Tailwind for a clean, engaging interface
- Backend: Node.js server to orchestrate multiplayer sessions and scoring logic
- Deployment: Optimized for both web and mobile to maximize accessibility
Challenges we ran into
- Designing adaptive AI scenarios that feel realistic and varied
- Ensuring real-time synchronization for multiplayer without lag
- Balancing fun gameplay with serious learning outcomes
- Scaling across different platforms while keeping performance smooth
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Created a first-of-its-kind AI-powered multiplayer crisis simulator
- Developed an intelligent scoring system that measures leadership and collaboration skills
- Designed a cross-platform prototype that works on both web and mobile
- Built an experience that blends serious training with game-like engagement
What we learned
- How to combine AI-driven storytelling with structured learning outcomes
- Best practices in real-time multiplayer systems using Socket.io
- The importance of balancing game mechanics with professional training needs
- How collaboration across design, AI, and engineering leads to stronger innovation
What's next for Odyssey Engine
- Beta testing with corporate and educational partners
- Expanding scenario libraries (climate change, healthcare, cybersecurity, and more)
- Building native mobile apps for iOS/Android
- Adding enterprise features like analytics dashboards and custom branding
- Evolving into a platform that redefines how teams prepare for real-world crises
